Casapueblo – A perfect blend of Art, Nature, and Architecture

Square

Few artists have had the chance to create their own living museums, their perfect havens. Carlos Páez Vilaró is one of them. A disciple of the likes of Picasso and Torres García, Páez Vilaró created Casapueblo, a dreamlike affair that combines a hotel, an artist´s workshop, and an art gallery.

I once had a romantic getaway at the hotel, which I highly recommend. This year, I visited and was inspired along with my sister, Fabiana, who also happens to be an artist.

This is a must see for anyone visiting Uruguay and Punta del Este. As for the hotel, it is extremely affordable for such luxury accommodations.Every room is a work of art in itself. The building´s inspiration is Greek, but there is so much more to it. Somehow, it is also quintessentially Uruguayan.

Páez Vilaró was inspired by Picasso and the surrealists, but also by candombe, by the black culture of Montevideo. To contemplate his works in these surroundings is utter bliss. Casapueblo is also considered one of the best places to watch the sunset in all of Uruguay.
